Father’s Day is a holiday dedicated to celebrating the men in our lives who have sacrificed so much for us. It’s a day to thank them for helping us become the people we are today. With that day fast approaching, it’s time to start coming up with ideas on how to give dad the day he deserves. There’s no better place to spend it than downtown Lexington. There’s everything you need to show him how special he is to you.
To get his day off to a delicious start, you could treat him to a Father’s Day brunch at one of the many downtown restaurants known for their grub. The Village Idiot is a great local gastropub that offers scrumptious familiar dishes with a twist as well as a great selection of bourbon and beer to choose from. Another fantastic option is Doodles. Known for its creole breakfast & lunch made from organic ingredients and served in a bustling re-purposed gas station, it never fails to please and would make a great starting line for your Father’s Day activities.
If your dad is artsy, or even just willing to try something new, you can get your creative juices flowing at Ethereal Brewing’s Father’s Day paint party, where you’ll decorate your own bourbon barrel lid. Not only will you get the chance to show up your old man with your painting skills, but you’ll have some fun and leave with a souvenir he’ll cherish forever.
Even if you’re not interested in making your Father’s Day gift by hand, there are plenty of places downtown to shop for that perfect present to show your dad how much he means to you. Justin’s House of Bourbon offers a large selection of rare and unique bourbons to add to his collection. If he’s a music lover, CD Central has a massive collection of vinyl and even sells turntables so he can listen to his favorite band the way they were meant to be heard. If you want to get him a nice watch, Joe Rosenberg Jewelers is the place to go, with a great selection of fine time pieces.
If your dad enjoys bourbon, boy have you come to the right city. On Father’s Day take him out to the Bourbon Barons: The Beams tour. This bourbon tasting tour will make stops at the Heaven Hill Distillery, Limestone Branch, and Jim Beam American Stillhouse. It’s guaranteed to be a good time. Or if a tour is too much of a commitment, there are plenty of places around downtown to get your drink on.
One great option is Bluegrass Tavern. It is a traditional pub offering beer on tap, classic cocktails & a large selection of bourbon whiskeys. Two more great options are Lockbox and Carson’s, which both offer a cool atmosphere as well as a wide range of savory food choices and unique cocktails to make your Father’s day meal an amazing experience.
Regardless of what you choose to do with your dad on his special day, have fun and enjoy the time you have together. Life is short so make the most of it and share it with the people you love!
