With such uncertainty in the air these days, it’s important that we celebrate those closest to us. Father’s Day is the time to do just that. The day is dedicated to the important men in our lives who have taken care of us and shaped us into who we are today. There is no way to fully repay them for their role. What we can do, however, is shower them with joy on this very special day so that they know how thankful we are. Whether that means getting him his favorite meal or getting him the perfect gift, downtown has got you covered!
For the Food Loving Dad
Downtown Lexington is known for its unique and diverse food options that will satisfy the entire family. If you are looking for a luxury atmosphere where you can find decadent meals such as steak and seafood, check out Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse or Tony’s of Lexington. Both offer delicious options and incredible atmospheres to set the tone for what is bound to be a great night. For a more laid-back meal try Goodfella’s Pizza or Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken. Goodfellas features giant slices of pizza and in the downtown distillery district, and the views are beautiful. Gus’s Fried Chicken is all about the food – and has proven to be by being named one of Yelp’s top 100 places to eat. Of course, all of these restaurants also offer to-go options so that you can enjoy their delicious food from the comfort of your own home.
For the Bourbon Loving Dad
Lexington takes pride in bourbon, hand-crafted here and enjoyed around the world. This Father’s Day pick your dad up a bottle of bourbon from one of several amazing distilleries. Maker’s Mark is a pick you can never go wrong with, featuring the same perfectly-crafted bourbon since 1953. If the dad in your life wants to try something new, head to Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co. and pick him up a pack of Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Hard Tea. In flavors such as peach and half & half, it is their twist on a Kentucky tradition. And if you have a dad that prefers beer over bourbon, head to West Sixth Brewery or Country Boy Brewing to pick the perfect beer to make his day just right.
For the Sports Loving Dad
They say good things take time, and for sports lovers out there, one can only hope that sports return sooner rather than later. However, you can always plan early. If you live in Lexington, you have to cheer on the Cats, so get ready for football season by gifting your dad Kentucky Football tickets. With a team with this much talent, it will be worth the wait. Another Lexington favorite is Keeneland, and while you may not be able to be in the Grandstand, Keeneland merchandise is always in season. Keeneland Mercantile, located in the heart of downtown, has you covered with all kinds of Keeneland paraphernalia.
At the end of the day, how you choose to celebrate your father on his special day is not what means the most. The most important thing is showing him how much you truly appreciate him. Go out of your way to make this Father’s Day one you will remember. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!
